PSG has now won the season-opening trophy on 14 separate times.
Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.
The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown between the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup winners after the French winger opened the scoring early on.
Yet, the southern French side struck twice late to take a surprise advantage. First, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.
In a remarkable twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital equaliser in the dying moments to force the contest into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping crucial kicks from O'Riley and Traore.
From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for PSG to seal a convincing penalty victory.
Now 14-time champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the last thirteen seasons.
